Furniture icon Maloof dies at 93

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA – Sam Maloof, master furniture craftsman, passed away May 21, according to the MercuryNews.com. He was 93.

Maloof’s furniture graced the White House and the Metropolitan Museum of Art among other distinguished venues. President Jimmy Carter called Maloof “my woodworking hero.”

Among his works, Maloof designed the Sequoia Award trophy presented every other year at the AWFS Fair.

Maloof favored functionality over artistry. His modern furniture, including rocking chairs, cradles and hutches, were handcrafted of wood and assembled without hardware.
